Since November 2023, in collaboration with CMI — Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, funded by the European Union, we have been designing, localising, and facilitating mental health and psychosocial support workshops for displaced Sudanese women activists, who fled the war in Sudan to enhance their political agency and contribute to peacemaking. We are running these workshops in countries with a high population of Sudanese diaspora.
The workshops provide participants with a better understanding of the impact of trauma and, a safe space for experiential tools and are provided resources to support their mental well-being while maintaining a safe space for women. We also introduce conscious leadership in women to enhance leadership and mediation skills for Sudanese activists and diaspora who will play a key in future peacekeeping and political reform talks in Sudan.
For activists and potential agents of change, it is crucial to engage them to ensure there is an increased level of self-awareness; and to make decisions for the future from a grounded space that would benefit the community.
